Yoga Sadhana Kendra (YSK) was born out of the passion of Mrs.Usha Karnik to institutionalise and spread the benefits of Yoga. The passion itself was a result of personal success at overcoming ailments like arthritis and migraine. Repeated medical consultations were only leading her to accept a life of pain and she was fighting the temptations of giving up attempts at a cure. A chance encounter, led her to explore Yoga as a cure. She enlisted herself as a student of Yoga Vidya Niketan, under the watchful eyes of Guru Shri Sadashiv Nimbalkar. It was from the fountain of knowledge of Guru Nimbalkar that she drew the first lessons in being an ideal teacher. His constant encouragement and motivation helped in bringing out the best in her, leading to cherished memories and immortal gratitude.The success spurred her to take up Teachers Training Course at the same institute and join them as a teacher. Her enthusiasm at personal success and conviction on yogic management for cures was amply reflected in her results at the Teachers Training Course where she topped the class and won many prizes. She rose to become the head ofTeachers Training Course atYoga Vidya Niketan.
YSK was established in the year 1990 with a handful of students at her residence. The need to approach training in a more holistic manner was soon realised and she went on to study subjects like Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Therapeutic Massage etc. In keeping with the tradition of having to update knowledge and keep in touch with changes, she also participated in courses like Kundalini Yoga, Laya Yoga, Stress Management and Pranic Energisation Technique. This repertoire of knowledge helped her in taking a holistic view and suitably structure her courses. She draws inspiration from the Bihar School of Yoga and the classes are structured on the principles enunciated by Swami Satyananda Saraswati and Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati.
The Kendra's motivation is Health, I-Iarmony and Peace through Yoga. To propagate the same, classes are conducted in a unique fashion. Personal attention to each student is assured. YSK has grown over the years, thanks to the dedication and integrity of many teachers who have joined since. The phenomenal growth to accommodate 700 students in different batches would not be possible without the active support and participation of these teachers, who work with dedication and devotion. Many of these teachers were themselves students of YSK and underwent the first Teachers Training Course conducted byYSK. They have imbibed the spirit of YSK and are rendering yeoman service. The Kendra recognises and acknowledges that “Quality is never an accident but the result of intelligent effort - There must be a will to produce superior things . Towards this end, the teachers attempt constant retraining and also try to keep abreast with changing times.
